Registering your marriage is really not as simple and easy as it seems to be – you have to take appoints, do the paperwork and most importantly, sacrifice your precious time on the registration process. And we know, it’s not even the last thing that crosses your mind while you’re planning to get married.

Amidst all the wedding festivities, the registration process often takes a backseat due to that hectic schedule and till the time official documents are really required whether for travelling or any other purpose, nobody really cares about making the wedding official. Perhaps, our government has taken a note of that, and passed the marriage registration bill which states that every couple is supposed to get their wedding registered within the first 30 days. If it’s not done, the couple will be liable to pay a fine for the same.
Couples who do not get their marriage registered within 30 days of the official ceremony, will be fined Rs. 5 on a daily basis, if they fail to provide a reasonable cause. And, if you delay that by a year, you will have to shed out nearly 2K! Earlier, this fine was applicable after a period of 60 days from the wedding, but the law has been amended now.
This is basically done to encourage more and more people to get their marriages registered and eradicate child marriage. Also, the marriage has to be registered in the region where it happened, so go ahead, rush if you’ve recently tied the knot and get it done before you run out of time !
